Pastor E. E. Okon's Funeral

Tributes

A TRIBUTE TO THE FATHER OF FATHERS

Great Daddy, you left us at a time appointed.  You have successfully written yourself in our hearts and we carry you with us wherever we go to.

Some say you were God’s General, but I say, you were God’s Field Marshal, an ICON of The Apostolic Church/Christendom.  A true man of God, even the devil can attest to this.

The man who was absolutely dis-interested with all earthly things; the man who looked at the entire world as a nuclear family and so abhorred tribalism in all its ramification; a true Adventist & eschatologist; a role model with an infectious love has gone home to the Lord.

'Mark the perfect man, for the end of that man is peace'. With your transition, we are joyful that heaven has one more patriarch.

Daddy, if you lived in the Biblical era, I am sure your name would have had a place with the likes of Isaac, Jacob and Moses. Sleep on. Now, I know that you are at home.

You were our high priest. You ordained all of us into the Apostleship.  You fatherly and unconditional love has helped us to understand profoundly the fatherhood of God Almighty.

Your were a tree of peace. The fruits you bore ministered peace to our souls.  You gentle voice always spoke peace to our troubled hearts.

Papa, academically, you were an encyclopedia of Apostolic doctrine, constitution and principles.  We will always thank God for having blessed us with a father as you.

We will always remember your golden rule to us – “Do unto others what you wish them do unto you”; and will endeavour to pass it on to our children.

If people’s works on earth can be measure by the number of lives they positively influence, then you earn a Postmortem award of an Elder state man, a Grand-patron, a Father and a Great leader of our time, a great teacher, pastor, friend, motivator, adviser, philanthropist, enthusiast and counselor. Words are not enough to describe or illustrate your person. In my humble opinion, your characteristic traits are a pointer to the fact that you were from the lineage of Abraham. You have mentored so many, you have pastored so many and you have severally converted so many to Christ.

Daddy, May God who sustained your long life here on earth with your good works, reward you & place you at the right-place there in Heaven...Papa we really miss you; I pray may God continue to guide and lead us from where you stopped to sustain that vision to the entire church...finally Papa may your gentle soul rest in perfect peace...Amen.

YOUR CROSS AND YOUR CROWN

(A poem in honour of Pastor E. E. Okon)

There was a call ringing over the land!

Carry your cross and follow me daily,

If indeed you want to be mine forever,

Surrender all and be my servant”

Many heard the call but few responded,

Many were called but few were chosen,

Pastor Eyo Edet Okon was among the chosen,

He cheated himself, carried his cross and followed Jesus.

He stood upon the pedestal of humility,

A man of few words a man of simplicity

Enemy of affluence, advocate of generosity,

Overseer of his fold, shepherd of his flock

Ete, self-sacrifice was your touchstone,

You surrendered all to Jesus your Lord,

Your surrendered all to your lieutenants,

Your life was a paradigm of Christianity.

You had no Area of your own, no District.

Many were sent-off, many were received,

You were neither sent-off nor received!

Totally dead to the earthly treasures and accolades!

You’re epitome of humility, symbol of loyalty,

An instrument of peace, and the object of unity.

A paragon of faithfulness, an icon of simplicity

Righteousness was your garment on your body.

Among your fellows your faithfulness was unparallel!

You stood taller than them all in Nigeria!

With the oil of gladness you were above them all

Twenthieth Century Christian leader, you were greater than all!

Papa! There you lie in your silken drapers!

So calm and serene in the sleep of death!

Sleep on, sleep on to your eternal rest!

Go home, go home, meet your Creator home.

Go home Papa! Go home tonight!!

We shall meet you bye and bye

Each at our time when the Lord shall call,

So fly away, fly away tonight

Fly away in heavenly beauty fly away.

Your wings are getting stronger, fly away

In that great antiphonal chorus, fly away

As the angels lead you to the King, fly away.

I see you dancing and strutting around,

One step, two steps, in front of Jesus

Bend your head and receive your crowns,

Crown of Life and crown of righteousness

I see your star-studded crowns shinning!

You’re shining, you’re glittering like gold

Your mansion so glorious , so breathtaking!

Greatest Christian Leader farewell! Farewell tonight

O that I will die the death of the righteous

For precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints

Papa, goodnight! Goodnight! We shall meet at dawn!
